Asking Signs from the Stars: The Good and the Bad of Astrology

I’ve never been a big fan of astrology, but I understand why a lot of people are. I have friends that enjoy it, and I talk to them about this from time to time. I pay attention and conduct my research. And I’ll admit that a lot of what I’ve learned about my horoscope and the signs of individuals I care about appears to be correct. My issue with astrology has never truly been its accuracy.

I see jokes and postings about astrology, the various signs, and how they are in certain circumstances all over social media. It’s entertaining to look over it now and then to see whether it’s correct. I completely get the appeal. There’s just so much out there these days.

But to what extent can astrology be accurate, reliable and applicable to our daily lives? Can it be harmful to a person’s personal life? Or could it potentially ruin someone’s life? Let’s unpack.

Astrology Doesn’t Work Ever

Astrology, according to hardened scientists, does not function. It does work however, according to believers. But  who is right? They both could be. It depends on what you understand by “work.”

While many people look to the stars to reveal an underlying, mystical purpose for their day, others are skeptical of the alleged power of their birth’s planetary alignment. The self-fulfilling prophecy is one source of concern.

So Is Believing in Astrology Just a Self-Fulfilling Prophecy?

Astrology has become a popular aid in the decision-making process for an increasing number of individuals, to the point where some people determine whether or not to pursue a career or have a pleasant day depending on their rising sign (among other astrological characteristics).

So, how does self-fulfilling prophecy play a role in astrology? If people’s actions are influenced by the predictions they are subjected to, those who believe in astrology may be more susceptible to self-fulfilling prophecies. Implying that after hearing an astrological prediction for them, they will be more prepared to accept some facts over others if they support their initial expectation.

The Usage of Astrology and Its Impact on a Person’s Life

If there’s one thing we all want to learn more about, it’s romance and relationships – and many people appear to believe that astrology can help them manage that portion of their life. But let’s be honest, while I may not be a huge fan of astrology; my only main concern is how people utilize it.

Sometimes there are those who use astrology in an unhealthy manner, basing their entire lives around it. They might even go to an extent to make it as an excuse for their behaviour, or even to justify their decision makings.  Astrology may be quite beneficial. However, like with everything, you should not put all of your eggs in one basket. It should be regarded as a point of reference rather than a set-in-stone route map.

Don’t Use It As An Excuse!

Take a relationship or love life for example. If a person is in a relationship that everyone advises them to leave, and they check up their zodiac signs and find that they’re compatible and use it as a justification to stay, that’s unhealthy. It’s problematic if someone has the same sorts of relationship difficulties over and over again. But claims, “well, it’s just because I’m a Virgo,” and uses that as an excuse not to address them.

It’s bad if someone spends all of their time reading about the different signs and what they can mean for their love life. Yet, doesn’t spend any time going within and having the difficult dialogues.

Don’t Take It Seriously!

In all seriousness, I’m not suggesting you should stop reading about your horoscope or check to see whether your sign is compatible with the person you’ve just begun talking to. Take it with a grain of salt, that’s all. Find the lesson in what you’re learning, and then go out there and make your own decisions, dictating your own life. Astrology is not in control of your life. You certainly are. And, while it might be frightening at times, it is also what makes our life much more interesting.
